NMR Process

Nonconforming Material Reports (NMR or NCMR)

When Graco identifies defective product, the product is quarantined and an NMR is initiated in our worldwide NMR system. This system is completely paperless and all NMR records are generated electronically.

NMR Creation

Incoming Inspection NMRs
NMRs created at incoming inspection are generally for the entire lot received. These NMRs are based on the sample quantity inspected. Sample size is determined based on quantity shipped. If we determine that the sample size is rejected, we will reject the entire shipment. The supplier has the option to come in and rework/sort the defective lot. If the supplier chooses not to come in and sort, Graco will return the entire lot for credit.

In Process NMRs
The majority of “In process” NMRs are for smaller quantities. These NMRs are normally created for a known quantity of defective parts found during assembly or production.

When an NMR is created and communicated to the supplier (via email), the Commodity Manager may issue a Supplier Corrective Action Request (SCAR). Please see our section on SCARs for more information.
